Just after 1:00 AM Monday, January 13th, fire units were dispatched to 5112 N County Road 350 East in Clinton Township on a house fire. LFD units arrived to find a residence with fire showing from the
chimney and roof. First arriving units ensured all occupants were out of the building and initiated an interior fire attack. The fire was brought under control within minutes, but crews remained on
scene until 3:25 AM to complete origin and cause investigation and to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the fire.
LFD investigators conducted an examination of the scene and determined the fire originated in the chimney of the residence. Occupants reportedly had been burning wood in the fireplace all day and were awake at the time of the fire. The fire was ruled accidental in nature, likely caused by Creosote buildup in the chimney flue pipe. Fire spread from the chimney to combustibles in a second-floor bedroom and the attic. No damage estimate was available at the time of this release.
