Steven Schmidt, 71, of Lebanon, passed away December 26, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born November 19, 1954, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, a son of the late Willard and Rachel (Hubbard) Schmidt. Steven married Elaine Smith, and she preceded him in death in 1997.   Steven graduated from high school in Sandwich, Illinois. James “Jim” McCormack of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Homewood Health Campus, Lebanon, Indiana. Jim was born November 7th, 1931 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Paul and Henrietta (Reinholtz) McCormack.    Jim graduated from New Castle High School. Richard Arnold Shover, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at his daughter Brenda’s home in Lebanon, Indiana where he resided for the past 13 months as his health was deteriorating. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 12, 1938, in Indianapolis. A son of the late Richard Raymond and Opal Louise (Willis) Shover Barnett. Richard “Rick” Nester, 77, passed away on December 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on November 12, 1948, in Lebanon, Indiana to Milton and Sarah (Sally) Nester. He was raised in Lebanon alongside his sister, Nancy, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1967. Miss Boone County Ella Shepherd will be competing this weekend at the Indiana State Fair Queen contest. Preliminaries will be Saturday, January 3rd at 5pm. Finals will be held Sunday, January 4th at 1pm. The pageant will be held in the Corteva Coliseum  at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. We wish Ella Shepherd  the very best as she takes the state stage and represents Boone County  with poise, confidence, and excellence.

INDOT maintenance crews will be out this evening on I-65 between State Road 38 and S.R. 47 patching potholes. Expect intermediate lane closures lasting through tonight, weather-permitting.

The City of Frankfort, Indiana  trash services & recycling services will not run on December 31st or January 1st. There will be a double trash pickup on Friday for Thursday and Friday's routes. Please make sure your trash cart(s) are out by 7:00am to ensure pickup on Friday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) awarded the Boone County Highway Department a Community Crossing Matching Grant for improvements of local roads and bridges. Boone County will use its’ share to repair two bridges. Structures over Smith and Dixon ditches will get the attention that they need. Both projects are anticipated to be completed during the 2026 construction season.

Carly Davison has become the all-time leading scorer in Clinton Central Girls Basketball history! Carly reached this incredible milestone in historic fashion by scoring 41 points to lead the Bulldogs to a thrilling 57-54 victory over Tindley on December 26th. Ronald L. Abraham, age 87, passed away on December 16, 2025, at his home in Florida.   Ronald was born on September 25, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, to the Rev. Paul and Gleda Abraham. He attended trade school and then became a journeyman at GM Allison Transmission.
