Robert S. “Bob” Spencer, 75, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 15, 1950; a son of the late William and Mildred (Burgin) Spencer.
After earning his Bachelor of Science from Ball State University in 1972, Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Department of Defense in 2008.
Bob had a passion for sports, particularly tennis and basketball. He enjoyed playing tennis and in later years loved watching his children and grandchildren playing tennis and other sports. He also had a strong interest in American history, especially the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. He also followed U.S. politics closely and was always ready to talk with someone about current events. However, Bob’s favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. He was affectionately known as “Grampy” and never missed an opportunity to cheer on and support his “team” as he often referred to them.
Survivors include his children, Robert B. (Dru) Spencer, Amanda (Christopher) Christmas, and Michael (JD) Spencer; three granddaughters, Olivia, Gabrielle, and Natalie Malerich; bonus grandson, Christopher Christmas; sister, Linda (Lee) Guyer; former wife, Theresa Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Judith Genrich, William Spencer, Rebecca Streeter, and Patricia Schlom.
Graveside Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery, 935 East Washington Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with his arrangements.
