Helen S. Litscher

Helen S. Litscher, born May 1, 1928, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on July 22, 2026. Helen’s long life touched many, where her kindness, quiet humor, strength and encouragement made her a role model to both family and friends.

A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Helen is survived by her children, Carrie Jo (Mark Argus) Bates and Chris (Beverly) Litscher, grandchildren Chris (Stephanie) Litscher and Robin Wilkins, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joan Gardner, brother Earl Snellenberger, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Robert Fouts (Kieren) and sister-in-law Susan McCormick.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Christian J. Litscher III, her sisters Kathryn Dixon and Jean Cross, and brother Russel Snellenberger.

Living most of her life in Indiana, Helen was Valedictorian of Shortridge High School before receiving her Bachelor of Chemistry from Purdue University and her Masters from University of Illinois. She worked as a chemist at Eli Lilly before marrying and having children. With children grown, she then worked as a chemist at Reilly Industries.

Reading was always a passion for Helen, as well as playing games on her iPad. She loved to garden and was a Master Gardener for many years. Always an enthusiastic traveler, she and her husband visited much of the US; and she vacationed in Italy, France and the UK with her daughter and son-in-law. Michigan was a favorite vacation spot, whether visiting her husband’s family there or sight-seeing with children and their spouses.

Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life, and inspired the joy she felt in everything she did. Also of utmost importance to Helen was her family, where her faithful character, compassionate heart, and devotion to loved ones were shining examples of her love lived out every day. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and her family treasures her memory and continues her legacy of love and grace.
