On November 8, 2024 at approximately 12:55 PM , Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver traveling southbound on I-65 near the 145 mile marker. The vehicle, driven by Jerry Tackett, 47 years old, of Geneva, Illinois, was observed swerving dangerously and posing a risk to other motorists. The driver eventually pulled over to the side of the road near mile marker 143.
Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies discovered Mr. Tackett unresponsive and appearing to be suffering from a medical emergency. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Mr. Tackett was transported to a local hospital, where, despite all efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.
