Norman Eugene Smiley, 79, of Lebanon, IN passed away July 1, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born July 4, 1946, in Lebanon, IN to Albert and Vivian Smiley. He grew up in Lebanon and graduated in the Class of 1964 and furthered his education at Rose Hulman in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Gail (Clark) Smiley on June 28, 1969, and was blessed to have two children. Norman was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and had many friends. He loved spending time with family, doing activities with grandchildren, reading, trying new restaurants, and being with special friends. He always took great pride in his yard.
Norman had a long career of 45 years of service including Allison General Motors and Dow AgroSciences. He was involved in many organizations and a member of Theta Xi, IFMA, and the Class Reunion.
Norman is survived by his loving wife, Gail; daughter, Lynette (Smiley) Sloan (Chad); son, Eric Smiley (Lucy); grandchildren, Alivia and Corban Sloan, Kiley Kane (Austin), and Damon, Marshall, and Lena Smiley; great grandchildren, Lainey and Anthony Kane; and twin brother, Nelson Smiley (Esther).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Norman will be greatly missed and loved by so many.
A service to honor Norman’s life will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 1 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, IN 46052. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
