Nancy Jayne Mathews, 83, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Boone County, Indiana, on June 15, 1941, a daughter of the late Charles Erwin and Margaret Elizabeth (Mahoy) Boyer.
On August 19, 1961, she was united in marriage to Bennie Lee Mathews in Thorntown. They shared 37 loving years together before he passed away on September 22, 1998.
Nancy was a graduate of Thorntown High School in the late 1950s. In addition to helping her husband on the family farm throughout the years, she dedicated twenty years to the Boone County Agriculture Extension Agency.
Nancy held memberships with the Elizaville Christian Church and Mid–America Threshing & Antique, Inc. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great–great grandmother who loved her family dearly.
Survivors include four children, Brian (Jo Ann) Mathews of Thorntown, Jayne (Jeffrey) Mathews–Sheets of Lebanon, Allison (Jeff) Calvin of Atlanta, Indiana, and Charlotte (Darryl) Hancock of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Nichole Walston, Brad Mathews, Patricia Chester, Darren Mathews, Nick Mathews, Wesley Hancock, Travis Hancock, Chantel Calvin, and Kyle Mathews; several great grandchildren and great–great grandchildren; sister, Connie Jean FitzSimons of Lafayette; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Judith Kay Linton and Janet Sue Sipe; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Sipe and Vincent FitzSimons.
Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
