Myrtle Irene “Rene” Burton Strawmyer

Myrtle Irene “Rene” Burton Strawmyer, 95, passed away early morning on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Indiana. She was born on April 3, 1930, in Maysville, Kentucky; one of twelve children to the late Orville H. and Nellie M. (Pollitt) Simms.



On July 31, 1999, she was united in marriage to Leo Wayne Burton in Boone County, Indiana. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2007. She later married C. Gene Strawmyer; he survives.



Rene was employed at Cowan’s Drug Store for 30 years in the restaurant before retiring.



She was a former member of Pleasant View Christian Church and currently attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lebanon. Rene was also a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.



Survivors include her husband, Gene Strawmyer; children, Brent W. Burton and Dana (Phil) DePuy; grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Burton, Tracey (Brian) Disney, and Amy Beers; three great grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Penny) Simms, Orville (Pamela) Simms, Thomas Simms, and Arthur Simms; sisters, Mildred (Fred) Giesecke and Kay Hesterhagen; and several nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and first husband, Rene was preceded in death by a son in infancy, Phillip Claypole; brother, Carl Simms; and sisters, Lillian Caudill, Vivian Landreth, Edna Mae Simms, and Clara Raatz.



Funeral Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.



Memorials may be directed in her memory to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 858 West 250 North, Lebanon, Indiana 46052.
