Mulberry Home Invasion Suspect Arrested

On Saturday, October 18, 2025, at approximately 3:08 a.m., Deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Jackson Street in Mulberry to a report of a burglary with injuries to the homeowner. Deputies arrived and determined Gary Richards, 44, originally from Bloomington, had entered the residence through a window and attacked the female as she slept in bed with her two juvenile children. One child ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help, while the other child stayed with Mom during the attack. The child who ran out for help then returned and was able to push the suspect out of the residence while they awaited a response from law enforcement.

Throughout the investigation, it was determined Richards was the suspect in a stolen vehicle report in Tippecanoe County. Police in Plainfield were able to locate the vehicle and took Richards into custody following a lengthy pursuit. Richards was transferred to Clinton County on a warrant for the following charges:

Domestic Battery resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Level 5 Felony

Criminal Confinement, Level 6 Felony

Domestic Battery committed in the presence of a child, Level 6 Felony

Richards is being held on NO BOND.

Richards was out on bond in Jennings County for a charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Felony) and now has warrants pending in Tippecanoe and Hendricks Counties. Richards was also on probation in Monroe County.
