Meredith L. "Moose" Staton

Meredith L. "Moose" Staton, 85, formerly of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the home of his son where he resided in Marion, Indiana. He was born in Frankfort on June 20, 1940; a son of the late Cecil and Ruth (Vandervort) Staton.



He married Janet Sue Lenz in 1957 and later divorced.



Meredith was a 1958 graduate of Kirklin High School. He held the Shot Put record of 48' 10 ½ inches for many years and played football and basketball. Raised on the family farm, he helped his father daily, which attributed to his work ethic. Meredith worked in Lebanon for several years at Stewart Warner and The Guernsey. He owned and operated the Lebanon Pastry Kitchen and Lebanon Kawasaki. In addition, he delivered milk to the Lebanon Community Schools and many businesses in the surrounding area. Meredith was also a salesman, where he worked at Stout's RV, Lockhart Cadillac, Byrd's RV, Edmundson RV, and Mount Comfort RV. He was a master salesman and won many Salesman of the Year awards.



Meredith was a sports enthusiast, and his hobbies included tractor pulls and motorcycle racing. Much of his recent time was spent tinkering in the barn with a number of toys including his red slingshot and go-carts. He loved mowing the 20-acre field.



Survivors include his four children, Kathleen S. (Nathen) Cook of Lebanon, Kimberly A. (Roger) Hancock of Crawfordsville, Kevin L. (Karen) Staton of West Lafayette, and Kenneth J. (Robyn) Staton of Marion; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren with one on the way; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara McCarty and Martha Rogers both of Huntington; sister-in-law Sue Staton of Indianapolis; many nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Janet Spears.



In addition to his parents, Meredith was preceded in death by a brother, David Staton, sister, Janice Staton and daughter-in-law, Leyanna Staton.



Visitation is planned from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin.
