Mari Werry

Mari Werry passed away on August 25, 2025 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana.  She was born on June 23,1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert D. and Glenda L. McFrye of Lebanon, both of whom are deceased.  Mari lived almost all of her life in Lebanon.

Mari was a 1972 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1976 graduate of Butler University. She graduated Cum Laude from Butler with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Special Education.

While at Lebanon High School, she met future husband Paul “Chip” Werry.  They married on June 15,1974 and recently celebrated fifty-one (51) years of marriage together.

After graduation from Butler in 1976, there were no teaching positions available.  She told Chip that she would work with him in his dental practice as the Office Manager for one (1) year.  Over forty-two (42) years later, they retired together from the dental practice.  They were surrounded by an extremely close and loyal staff.  After retirement, the staff often gathered at Ulen until Mari’s health no longer allowed her to do so.  Those years at the dental office meant the world to both Mari and Chip.  They were very proud of what they had built together with their staff.

Mari and Chip were long time members of Ulen Country Club and loved the opportunity to gather there with family and friends.  Mari enjoyed reading and cooking.  She was an excellent cook and often "perfected” new recipes that she tried.  For many years, she hosted her famous "Friday night dinners” for her family.  Mari and Chip enjoyed several cruises and loved their trips to their condo on Sanibel Island, Florida with their “dog children”.  Mari would “co-pilot” the RV each trip.

Mari is survived by her husband, Chip Werry, sister Susan (Kevin) Sosbe, nieces Megan Sosbe and fiancé Brian Favia, Ft. Myers, FL, and Kara (Jesse) Shapins of Copenhagen, Denmark, nephews Cameron (Peggy) Oehler and Ian Oehler, Indianapolis, and stepmother Margaret Larr McFrye, Lebanon.  They enjoyed their time with two (2) great-nephews and a great-niece.   Mari and Chip also enjoyed being “Aunt Mari” and “Uncle Chip” to children they loved as their own.  They were also blessed with close friends who became extended family.

Arrangements are being managed by Strawmyer and Drury, Lebanon, Indiana.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 10 a.m. to Noon at Strawmyer and Drury.  All friends and family are invited to a “Celebrate Mari” gathering at Ulen Country Club also on October 4th at 1:00 p.m.  In keeping with Mari’s spirit and sense of humor, please bring stories and smiles to share as we honor her life.   Donations in Mari’s honor would be appreciated to:  The Henry C. Ulen Foundation, Ulen Country Club, 100 Country Club Drive, Lebanon, Indiana or the Mental Health Association of Boone County, 1122 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana.
