Leanna Woody, 92, of Thorntown, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 after a brief stay at the Village of Avon in Avon, IN.
Leanna was born on February 23, 1933 in Thorntown to Martin and Forest Mitchell. She graduated from Thorntown High School in 1951 and spent 1 year studying at Columbia Christian College in Missouri. In 1952, Leanna married her high school sweetheart, Clark Clifford “Cliff” Woody. Shortly after being married, Leanna and Cliff lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 18 months, before returning to live in Thorntown.
She enjoyed life on the farm and raising her two children, Dennis and Dianne. Leanna was leader for the Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts for several years and helped with local 4-H clubs. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and gardening, attending basketball games to watch her grandchildren play, and cats. She was active in the Thorntown P.E.O Chapter A and Boone County Master Gardeners.
Leanna was employed at several businesses around the Boone County area doing secretarial/bookkeeping work. Later in life, she decided she wanted to complete a college degree and attended Butler University, receiving her Master’s degree in Music in 1993. Leanna served for over 40 years at the Thorntown Presbyterian Church as organist, choir director, and handbell director. One of the highlights of her time at the Presbyterian Church was starting a handbell choir. Soon after acquiring handbells, she started the “Ring and Sing”, which became an annual concert in December featuring the Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir and the Western Boone HS Choir. These concerts continued until the church closed.
Leanna is survived by her children, Dennis Woody (wife, Tammy) of Thorntown and Dianne (Woody) Perry (husband, Richard) of Avon.Grandchildren include: Matthew Woody (wife, Jill) of Thorntown, Lindsey (Woody) Musgrave (husband, Ryan) of Jamestown, Brandy (Woody) Nirider (husband, John) of Darlington, and Kristin Perry of Dallas, Texas.
