Clinton County Sheriff Richard Kelly is facing a gun charge and possible jail time in Hamilton County. On Friday, he was charged with unlawfully carrying a handgun. Prosecutors say the 56-year-old was working an off-duty security job at the former home of late Colts owner Jim Irsay on April 9 when a deputy responded to a call from Kelly, who appeared visibly distressed. Kelly allegedly pointed the deputy to a desk, saying there was something that “needed to be taken care of.” Inside the desk drawer, the deputy reportedly found Kelly’s loaded personal pistol. The incident was reported to Indiana State Police. If convicted, Kelly could spend more than a year in the Hamilton County jail.
