James David “Jim” Barnes, 70, passed away early morning on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on September 28, 1954; a son of the late Flora (Bray) and Ted Gibson.
Jim graduated from Lebanon High School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in computer programming from Purdue University. He later worked as a carpenter, specializing in cabinetry.
Jim enjoyed playing poker, billiards, fishing, and especially loved riding his Harley.
Survivors include his companion of 11 years, Laura Westart of Crawfordsville; son, James A. Barnes of Brownsburg; granddaughter, Autumn Barnes of Lebanon; brother, John C. (Deb) Barnes of Lebanon; and sisters, Jennifer B. Stiles of San Tan Valley, Arizona and Elizabeth A. Gibson of Bringhurst, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Michael W. “Mikie” Barnes and nephew, Travis M. Barnes.
No services. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with his care.
