Fatal Overdose Investigation Results In Arrest

On May 15, 2026, Frankfort Police Narcotics Detectives served an arrest warrant on 43-year-old, Erin R. Richards, of Frankfort for Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death. The arrest is the result of an investigation that began on March 18, 2026. On that date, the Frankfort Police Department, Frankfort Fire Department and Clinton County EMS were dispatched to the 300 block of Blinn Avenue for an apparent overdose. The individual was declared deceased at the scene.

The Clinton County Coroner’s Office reported that the death was caused by drug intoxication. Frankfort Narcotics Detectives and our Crime Scene Investigator put together a case against Richards that resulted in charges being filed by the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office.

“These types of cases require extensive investigative techniques to solve,” stated Chief Scott Shoemaker. “Our detectives and CSI worked diligently to put together a case to present to the prosecutor.”

The Frankfort Police Narcotics Unit responds to all fatal overdoses with our Criminal Investigators. The unit is comprised of two full-time detectives with a main goal of investigating and arresting those who deal illegal substances in our city.
