Boone Sheriff Announce Scam Alert

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an increase in phone scams involving fake bond payments and fraudulent “deputy” calls.

Scammers are telling people to send bond money through Cash App or other electronic payment apps to get a loved one released or placed on an ankle monitor.

Others are claiming to be deputies and demanding payment to make warrants “go away.”

These calls are NOT legitimate.

 Important reminders:

• The Boone County Sheriff’s Office does NOT accept bond payments through Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or similar apps.

• Bond payments are made in person at the jail or through AllPaid only.

• Deputies will not call to demand payment for warrants or to prevent arrest. Law enforcement makes contact in person.

 What to do:

• If you believe you received a scam call, report it to the Indiana Attorney General’s Office or the Federal Trade Commission.

• If you believe you are a victim of a crime, contact the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 482-1412, option 4.

• For legitimate questions about bond payments or release procedures, contact the Boone County Jail at (765) 482-1412, option 1.

When in doubt—hang up and verify. Please share to help protect others.
