Ruth Irene “Renie” Carter

Ruth Irene “Renie” Carter danced her way to Heaven on March 5, 2026, after a four-year battle with dementia. Although our hearts are hurting, we rejoice in knowing she is now with Jesus and free from her broken body.

Renie was born on November 5, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to William Charles Stathers and Ruth Elaine (Plass) Stathers. She graduated from Lebanon High School and spent more than 30 years working at Lau Blower in Lebanon. She later worked at Eli Lilly before retiring to care for her late husband, Randy.

Renie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Marts McClain; former son-in-law, Jonathan McClain; and her beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Lauren, and Seth McClain, who were the light of her life.

She is also survived by her siblings, Clara S. Stathers (Sue), Charles W. Stathers (Jonesie) and wife, Debbie, Debra K. Amundson (Missie), and John Stathers; her aunts, Carol Groce (Susie) and Shirley Davis; and her uncle, Keith Stathers and wife, Carol.

She was a proud aunt to Dustin Martin and nieces, Chelsea Ohlemiller, Chalais Randle, Brittany Stathers, and Trina Rose, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Renie loved spending time with her precious family and dear friends. If you knew Renie, you loved Renie. She enjoyed shopping, playing softball, bowling, golfing, and visiting the casinos. She was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority and volunteered at Witham Hospital after her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Charles Stathers and Ruth Elaine (Plass) Stathers; her beloved husband, Randy Carter; and her sister-in-law, Rita Stathers.

Renie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her fun-loving spirit, her kind heart, and, of course, those unforgettable dance moves.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lebanon Eagles Lodge.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Association in Renie’s memory.

Final care of Renie has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. You are invited to visit the website where you may sign her online register and leave a personal message at www.strawmyerdrury.com.
