Ronald F. Woodruff

Ronald F. Woodruff, age 84, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born on October 2, 1941, in Lebanon, Indiana, he attended Washington Twp. Elementary School and Thorntown High School graduating with the class of 1960. Shortly after finishing high school, he traveled to Florida for job opportunities. During that time, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay Reagan and also joined the Air Force serving from 1961 to 1964. During his time of service, he was stationed at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas, Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado and did a tour of duty at Sondrestrom Air Base in Central Greenland.

Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Boone County to build a livelihood and raise a family. A man of many talents, his endeavors included construction, equipment sales, and farming. In 1965, he purchased the family farm, originally established by his grandfather, William C. Woodruff, in 1930. The farm was later operated by his father, Frank Woodruff, who ultimately passed it on to him.

Over the years, he steadily maintained, expanded, and improved the homestead, raising livestock—including cows, pigs, goats, and horses—as well as many dogs and cats, while pursuing crop production, tending a garden, and continuously planting trees and creating wildlife habitats. Through these efforts, he provided a grounded and stable life for his wife and four children. His love of hunting and enjoyment of being outdoors was evident in everything he did.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Frank M Woodruff and Marjorie Hart Woodruff.

He is survived by his wife Athleene Kay Woodruff; four children, Diane Kay Jeffers (Phillip), Tamara Jean Tallar (Tom), Sherry Louise Woodruff, and Jeffrey Frank Woodruff; siblings, William T. Woodruff, Marcia J Henson and Patricia L. Morton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services with Military Rites are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow services at Cox Cemetery in Thorntown.
