Oscar Hiland, Jr.

Oscar Hiland, Jr., age 98, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 10, 1928, in Lebanon, Indiana, and lived a long, steady life defined by service, devotion to family, faith, and quiet integrity.

Oscar proudly served during the Korean War in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953. During his service, he was stationed in Austria in the 32nd Ordnance, Detached Service, where he carried out his duties with dedication and discipline. He attained the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge, and his military service remained a source of pride throughout his life, shaping his values of responsibility, humility, and commitment.

A man of deep faith, Oscar was an Elder at The First United Church of Christ, now First Community Church, in Lebanon, where he faithfully served his church community for many years. His faith guided his life and actions and was reflected in his kindness, steadiness, and care for others.

On March 14, 1953, Oscar married Lois Jane Wilhoite, the love of his life. Together they shared 58 years of marriage, building a home grounded in love, hard work, and mutual respect. Their partnership endured until Lois’s passing in 2011, and Oscar carried her memory with him always.

Oscar was a devoted father to his children, Janet Morgan and Gregg Hiland (Kathy). He took great pride in their lives and accomplishments and was a constant source of support and encouragement. He was also a loving Papaw to Emily Freck (Steven), Taylor Hiland (Alyssa), and Noah Morgan, who brought him immense joy and purpose. Time spent with his grandchildren was among his greatest pleasures, and his influence will continue to live on through them. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.

Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Hiland; his parents, Oscar Hiland, Sr. and Deloris Hiland; and his brother, Dwaine Hiland.

A private service for the family will be held prior to his interment at K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana.
