Marlis Lynn (Todd) Hankins, 83, of Lebanon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at Parkwood in Lebanon.
Marlis was born on June 11, 1942, to Otis and Mildred Todd and grew up in Mace, Indiana, alongside her beloved siblings, Janis (Leonard) Jorgensen; twin brother, Marlin (Susan) Todd; and the late Sharon Peebles, and Susie (Bernie) Burk.
Marlis married Ronald Shockley but later divorced. Marlis had two children, Kevin (Kathy) Shockley and Lori (Donald) Vaughn and a stepson, Paul Hankins. She later married the love of her life, Herbert Hankins, on June 3, 1973. They shared a beautiful life together until his passing in 2017.
Marlis worked for many years at Economy in Lebanon, where she made countless friendships and shared many fond memories. She often spoke with joy and pride about her time there and the people who became like family throughout the years.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marlis found her greatest joy in her family. She was endlessly proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — Kelli (Aaron) Shockley and their children Allison, Elizabeth, and Owen; Eric Shockley; April (Jack) Allgood and their children Emmalyn and Everett; Andrew (Sara) Vaughn and their children Brooklyn and Dawson; Aaron (Jordan) Vaughn and their children Rilee, Ainsley, and Archie; Raven (Logan) Henry and their children Abel, London, and Roman; Ian Hankins and daughter Alice; Kim Denning and children Kenzie and Sebastian; Heather Denning and son Tristian.
Marlis loved spending her days gardening, woodworking, and cheering on her grandchildren at their many events. She was known for her incredible holiday cooking — no gathering was complete without Mamaw ’s famous noodles. With her sharp wit, warm heart, and generous spirit, she could light up any room and make everyone around her feel loved.
Her family and friends will remember her laughter, her strength, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.
Honoring her wishes, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The family looks forward to coming together to remember her love, laughter, and the special memories she left behind. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with her cremation
