Janice Muriel West

Janice Muriel West, 84, passed away at her home in Whitestown on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois, on May 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Lester and Cecelia (Guoynes) Allen.



On March 9, 1965, she was united in marriage to Richard Lowell West in Alton, Illinois. He passed away October 27, 1992.



She was a graduate of Brighton High School in Illinois. She relocated to Whitestown, Indiana where she drove a school bus for Lebanon School Corporation. She later served as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 35 years. During retirement, Janice was the manager at the Whitestown American Legion Post 410.



She was a lifetime member of the Whitestown American Legion Auxiliary Post 410. Through the years, she enjoyed coaching girls softball, playing Euchre, and visiting with family and friends. In addition, she liked researching genealogy for the city of Whitestown. Janice was devoted to her family and loved each of them dearly.



Survivors include her four children, Jay (Sandra Champagne) Robbins of Whitestown, Jana Schuh of Whitestown, Jill (Alan) Stemmler of Fieldon, Illinois, and Beverly (Michael) Hinders of Frankfort; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; five great–great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nora Allen of Wichita, Kansas; and companion, Herman Samms of Whitestown.



In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Allen.



Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of services. Private Family Interment will take place at Mts. Runn Cemetery.



Memorials may be directed in her memory to the American Legion Post 410 Auxiliary, 5 Linville Avenue, Whitestown, IN 46075.
