Jacqueline (Jackie) Faye Parks

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our mother Jacqueline (Jackie) Faye Parks.  She was born April 27, 1935 in Kingsport, TN to Lawrence and Pearl Cleek.  Jackie spent her growing up years in Kingsport before moving to Indianapolis when she was 18.

After arriving in Indianapolis, Jackie began working for an insurance agency.  It was there a young man walked into the office and was smitten.  One afternoon he returned to drive Jackie home.  When he arrived to pick her up, he asked her where she lived.  Jackie responded with "oh, right around the corner".  Thus began a whirlwind courtship.  Jackie and William (Bill) Parks were married four months later on December 24, 1953.  They were married for 50 years.  Bill preceded Jackie in death on March 21, 2004.

In 1960, they moved to the Traders Point area of Indianapolis where they raised their three children.

Jackie attended Traders Point Christian Church in the 60's and 70's.  Later in life she attended New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown.  Jackie was a member of Kappa Kappa Delta Sorority as well as being active in the Pike Township Ladies Auxiliary for the Pike Township Fire Department.  She worked at Eastbrook Elementary as a teacher's aide before joining the crew at Addison Wesley Book Publishing Company, which provided books to many area schools.  As a great grandmother, she cared for her four oldest great grandchildren part time until they began school.   She was also like a "second mom" to many of the friends of her children. Growing up on a dead- end street tends to make you more like brothers and sisters instead of neighbors.

Besides her parents and husband, Jackie was preceded in death by her brother, James (Jim) Cleek and sister, Linda Quillen.  Survivors include her children, Anita (Ralph) Gehrung, Brett (Lori) Parks, and Denise Parks; grandchildren, Bradly Parks, Ryan (Selena) Parks, along with great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Garrett, Riley, Mason, Declan, and Kelsey Parks.  She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Amos and niece, Angel Quillen of TN, sister- and brother- in- law, Janice and Bill Whitaker, along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

Jackie's life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 13th, at the Dover Christian Church in Dover, Indiana.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services at 12 p.m.  Graveside services will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Traders Point.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boone County Humane Society as Jackie loved animals.
