Hollie Gene Suggs

Mr. Hollie Gene Suggs, 89, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at his home in Thorntown, Indiana. He was born on June 7, 1936, in Macon County, Tennessee. He was a son of the late Herman P. and Norma J. (Dyer) Suggs.

On January 25, 1974, he married Velma Alice (Kuhn) Suggs in Columbus, Ohio. She preceded him in death.

Hollie graduated from Arsenal Tech. High School in Indianapolis in 1956.

He was employed by the City of Beech Grove Sanitation Department in Indiana from 1970 to 1973. Hollie later worked as a painter at Ohio Steel in Columbus, Ohio, until retiring in 2001. After retirement, he held a position at the Columbus Fair Auto Auction.

Hollie attended New Beginnings Church in Thorntown. He enjoyed making quilts, painting and drawing. Hollie loved watching sci-fi, WWE, and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes. His Boston Terrier, named Lady, was special to him in his final years.

Survivors include his children, Glenda M. Suggs of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah (William) Blake of Arlington, Washington, Lisa Sims of Indianapolis, and Mike Suggs; grandchildren; William Blake and Sophia Blake; and sister, Kathleen “Susie” (Glenn) Lafferty of Thorntown.

Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2025, at Myers & Hunt Mortuary, 116 West Plum Street, in Thorntown, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of services. He will be laid to rest at Haysville Cemetery in Lafayette, Tennessee on Monday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m.
