Ford Road To Close Over I-865 For Bridge Replacement

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that the Ford Road bridge over I-865 is set to close for a bridge replacement project on the southeast side of Zionsville.

Beginning on or after Monday, June 8, Ford Road will close around the bridge through late fall. During this closure, the official detour will follow Hunt Club Road, Cooper Road (County Road 850 E.), and 96th Street.

Once complete, the new bridge will feature two 12-foot travel lanes with two 6-foot shoulders and a 10-foot multi-use path.

Overnight lane closures are planned on I-865 underneath the bridge to safely prepare for and facilitate bridge demolition. The following closures are planned between I-465 and Cooper Rd. between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

• Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3

  • One lane closed on I-865 eastbound and westbound

• Monday, June 8 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

  • One lane closed and rolling slowdowns on I-865 eastbound

  • 20-minute stoppages possible

• Tuesday, June 9 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

  • One lane closed and rolling slowdowns on I-865 eastbound and westbound

  • I-465 northbound ramp to I-865 westbound closed

  • 20-mintue stoppages possible

• Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11

  • One lane closed and rolling slowdowns on I-865 westbound

  • I-465 northbound ramp to I-865 westbound closed

  • 20-mintue stoppages possible

• Friday, June 12 (9 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

  • One lane closed and rolling slowdowns on I-865 eastbound and westbound

  • I-465 northbound ramp to I-865 westbound closed possible

  • 20-mintue stoppages possible

• Saturday, June 13 (9 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

  • One lane closed and rolling slowdowns on I-865 eastbound

  • 20-minute stoppages possible

• Sunday, June 14

  • One lane closed on I-865 westbound

• Monday, June 15

  • One lane closed on I-865 eastbound and westbound

• Tuesday, June 16

  • One lane closed on I-865 eastbound

During the I-465 northbound to I-865 westbound ramp closures, the official detour will follow I-465 eastbound to the U.S. 421 (Michigan Road) interchange, where drivers will use the ramps to move onto I-465 westbound.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and use extra caution while traveling in and around work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
