Ellen Elizabeth (Quick) Adams, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025. Born on April 25, 1931, Ellen’s 94 years of life was marked by her belief in God and Jesus as her Savior, creativity in sewing and crafts, helping others, tending to her plants, time spent with her children, her cherished memories of her beloved husband, and great resilience that beat the odds against many serious illnesses and as a survivor of a dysfunctional family of origin.
Ellen’s career path was varied. She worked as a retail clerk in a pharmacy, at Ben Franklin, at Zayre, as an assistant manager at Jo Ann Fabrics, selling sewing machines and teaching customers how to use the machines at Skip’s Sew and Vac, and at L.S. Ayres selling crystal and china until her retirement. Ellen worked at Lawrence Christian Church Daycare and Preschool as cook, cleaner, and loving provider of childcare. She went on to open her own home licensed daycare and touched many young lives. Ellen also worked preparing taxes at H & R Block tax service. Wherever Ellen worked, she advanced to assume leadership roles.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ellen was an extraordinary seamstress. She made wedding dresses, her own clothing, clothes for her daughter as a young child, and even made clothes for the Pastor’s wife to travel to the Middle East. She delighted in generously sewing gifts and crafts for friends and family.
Ellen enjoyed memberships at Lynhurst Baptist Church, at Lawrence Christian Church, East 38th Street Christian Church, East 91st Street Christian Church, and since 2000 at Kingsway Christian Church. Ellen (and her husband Ernie) were active members of the Central Indiana Leathercrafters Club.
Ellen was a frequent volunteer for Vacation Bible School, as a Sunday School teacher, as a Christian Camp chaperone and mentor, and for banquets and special occasions at Lawrence Christian Church. She enjoyed calling Bingo, playing Hand and Foot, L-C-R, Euchre, and Canasta with friends, attending dances, dinners, and activities while living at Crestwood Village. She delighted in her plants, especially her African Violets and Orchids. She loved to read her Bible, books by Christian authors, and sharing her belief in God with all who would listen.
Ellen’s family will be forever grateful for the loving care she received during her last 11 years residing at Traditions of Reagan Park in Avon. The friends she met and enjoyed dining with will be a lasting gift.
Ellen leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory dear. She is survived by her sons, Dannie Adams, Mike Adams (Carol), and her daughter, Bonnie Cowley (Christopher); her cherished ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Adams; Aaron Adams, grandson; Tyler Carter, great grandson; her in-laws, Basil and Geneva Adams; her parents, all of her aunts and uncles, and all of her brothers and sisters. Their absence is felt deeply, yet their shared memories will continue to bring comfort and warmth to those who remain.
Ellen Elizabeth Adams’ legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched during her time with us. As we gather to honor her memory, may we embrace the love she shared and the colorful spirit that she embodied throughout her inspiring life.
Funeral Services are planned for 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow services at Mts Runn Baptist Cemetery in Zionsville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, Ellen requested memorial donations in her name to be made to Sheltering Wings, at shelteringwings.org.
