David E. Herring, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born in Indianapolis on July 4, 1942, a son of the late Daisy (Trigg) and David Latimer, as well as the late Ed Herring.
On January 4, 1964, he was married to Evelyn (Morrison) Herring in Alexandria, Virginia; she survives.
David graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1960. Following school, he served his country honorably in the United States Navy.
David retired from GSA – U.S. General Services Administration in Indianapolis working HVAC. He held memberships with the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2062, VFW Post 910, and American Legion Post 113, all of Lebanon. For many years, he was in charge of organizing the Boone County Honor Guard for veterans’ funerals. In addition, David held the position of Past Post Commander.
He loved the outdoors, golfing, attending races at Speedway, and woodworking. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Evelyn; three sons, James “Jim” (Ada Hawkins) Herring of Lebanon, Matt (Deborah) Herring of Frankfort, and Joe Herring of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and siblings, Vicki Latimer Wright, Timothy Latimer, and Scott Herring.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Paul “Doug” Latimer.
Funeral Services with military rites are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
