Colfax Woman Dies Following Accident

A Colfax woman died after her vehicle struck the back of a garbage truck Monday afternoon on U.S. 52. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Maranda Rice. The Boone County Sheriff’s office says the truck was stopped in the southbound lane for trash collection when, for an unknown reason, it was rear-ended. Bystanders helped three children out of the Subaru before police arrived. All three children were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Rice was found unconscious inside the vehicle. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries but did not survive, the sheriff’s office reported Wednesday. The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating the accident.
