Boone County Employees Have Information Shared

Social Security numbers and names of all Boone County employees were inadvertently shared July 21 by the Department of Child Services to at least two vendors who work with the county. 

Beth Copeland, attorney for the county, stated in an email that a DCS employee sent an email with the spreadsheet that included the names and Social Security numbers to four county employees and two outside vendors. There are 290 county employees.

The list was compiled by the Boone County Auditor’s Office and sent to DCS to comply with a federal program that is operated through the agency. 

Boone County’s IT department removed the email from its internal system. It also directed the vendors to delete the email and any copies.

County employees were told it does not appear the information has been misused and were encouraged to review their credit reports and financial accounts.
