Betty Illa Carr

Mrs. Betty Illa Carr, 88, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Sheridan, Indiana. She was born on May 16, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of the late Eutis Walton Moore and Elizabeth “Betty” Nagy Moore.



On September 11, 1955, she was united in marriage to Joe Lenere Carr in Searcy, Arkansas. They shared 65 loving years together before his passing on January 23, 2021.



Raised in Searcy, Arkansas, Betty was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. Following their marriage, Betty and Joe moved to Westfield, Indiana where they began their own home framing business, Custom Framing. Over the years, Custom Framing became Custom Concrete and has operated as a family business for over 55 years, serving much of Indiana and southwest Ohio. Alongside Joe, she was an integral part of the business serving as his faithful partner and meticulous bookkeeper.



In addition to helping with the family business, Betty took great pride in raising her children and taking care of the family home. She was devoted to her family and loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, doing needlepoint, sewing, gardening and cooking. Betty was a dedicated and faithful member of Big Springs Community Church. During Betty’s life of Christian service, she taught Sunday School for nearly 40 years, sung in the church choir, participated in annual VBS programs, and was also an active member of the Willing Workers Group at Mts. Runn Baptist Church. More importantly, Betty loved to talk about the Lord’s return.



Survivors include three children, Timothy Joe (Sonya) Carr of Sheridan, Thomas Rand (Mary) Carr of Sheridan, and Melissa Ann (Brad) Schrock of Carmel; twelve grandchildren, Katie (Justin) Ratliff, Sarah (Brandon) Wilt, Ben (Mandi) Carr, Timothy Joe (Sarah) Carr, Jr., Joey (Kylie) Carr, Levi (Bethany) Schrock, Julie Carr, Sally Schrock, Anna (Sam) Gibson, Abbie (Manny) DeFord, Thomas (Christine) Schrock, and Rebekah (Drew) Ohman; twenty-six great grandchildren, Brittain Wilt, Brooklyn Wilt, Caiden Carr, Dax Carr, Ryleigh Jewell, Audrianna Schrock, Amelia Gibson, Evie Schrock, Oliver Carr, Harvey Carr, Bradley Schrock, Miles Schrock, Alaina Gibson, Illa Carr, Jameson Jewell, Lucas Schrock, Penny DeFord, Micah Ohman, Lucy Schrock, Wesley Gibson, Noah Ratliff, Lou Carr, Selah Schrock, Mason Ohman, Clark Schrock, and a DeFord baby on the way; and many nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, James Matthew Carr.



Funeral Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Mts. Runn Baptist Church, 250 South 775 East, Zionsville, Indiana, with Pastor John Vanderwier, pastor of Big Springs Community Church, officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Mts. Runn Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Betty’s memory to Big Spring Community Church, 11005 East 200 North, Sheridan, IN 46069.
