Mr. Joseph A. Shoemaker, 92, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Joseph was born December 26, 1933, in Union Township, a son of the late Clark and Virginia (Pipes) Shoemaker. He was married to Marjorie Smith in 1953, and they divorced in 1957. Beech Grove police say 33-year-old Officer Brian Elliott has been shot and killed by a 47-year-old suspect, and another officer is hospitalized after being injured. Governor Mike Braun says Elliott gave his life in the line of duty, and he and his wife Maureen are "praying for his family, loved ones, and his brothers and sisters in uniform as they grieve this unimaginable loss." Kenneth Johnson is the suspect and he was arrested after shooting the two officers.
