Michael “Mike” Andrew Yauney, age 77, passed away July 13, 2026, at his home in Lebanon, Indiana.
He was born May 30, 1949, in Gordon, Nebraska, a son of Dolores (Webster) Yauney and the late Lloyd Yauney.
A decorated Army veteran, Mike served his country for 25 years, including during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Army’s Purple Heart for honorable service and the physical sacrifices he made while serving his country. Following his Army retirement as a First Sergeant at Fort Benning, Georgia, Mike continued leading others as the Safety Officer in the trucking industry and later as a driver before settling in Indiana. His last years were joyously spent in the loving household with his daughter, Amanda, and her family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Yauney.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores Yauney, Casper, Wyoming; his siblings, Patrick Yauney, Katheryn Yauney, Bruce Yauney, Joseph Yauney, David Yauney, Howard Yauney, and Jane Yauney and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.
His children and grandchildren, Joshua Yauney (Lori Ann Smales), Harper Yauney, Harlow Yauney, and Hazel Yauney; Jenny Yauney-Metzger, Leigha Metzger, and Joslyn Metzger; and Amanda Yauney (John Gregory), Katie Cremer, Corie Cremer, and Kendall Cremer, Lebanon, Indiana.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, Lebanon, Indiana, with visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and a memorial service immediately following visitation. An interment service will later be scheduled giving his family the opportunity to celebrate his life and pay their last respects before he is laid to rest at the family cemetery in Hyannis, Nebraska.
Mike led a full and exciting life. His wit and dry humor will be missed by his family and the many people he mentored and befriended throughout his life.
