Dr. Kendall Leroy Wells, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026 in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on June 3, 1940, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to Lloyd Leroy Wells and Ruth Eleanor Wells.
Kendall graduated from Purdue University in 1964 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He went on to serve his country as a Captain in the United States Army on active duty from 1965 to 1967. Following his military service, he returned to Indiana and devoted the remainder of his professional life to practicing veterinary medicine in Northern Indiana, where he cared for countless animals and built lasting relationships with the families he served.
On June 9, 1962, Kendall married Alice Butler Swisher, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 63 years. Together they raised two sons, Bradley Kendall Wells and Gregory Allen Wells, and later welcomed two grandchildren, Zachary Allen Wells and Tyler Joseph Wells, all of whom brought him great joy.
After retiring, Kendall and Alice moved to the North Woods of Northern Minnesota, where they made their home in the Chippewa National Forest for 23 years. There they embraced a year‑round outdoor life filled with fishing, hunting, ice fishing, and snowshoeing—pursuits that reflected Kendall’s deep love of nature. During their years in Minnesota, they enjoyed serving the congregation of Jessie Lake Lutheran Church. In more recent years, they relocated to Central Florida to escape the harsh winters and spent their summers in Central Indiana, enjoying time with family and friends.
Kendall is survived by his wife Alice; his sons Bradley (Sara) and Gregory (Denise); his grandchildren Zachary and Tyler; and his brother John William Wells (Marsha). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ruth Wells.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Strawmyer & Drury Funeral Home, 2400 N Lebanon St, Lebanon, IN. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m.
