DNR Encouraging Hunters To Use Non-Lead Shots

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is encouraging hunters to not use lead shots but won't implement new restrictions. Former Indiana Native Plant Society leader Nancy Tatum had petitioned the DNR to ban lead ammunition, but officials say they cannot legally do that. Her research showed between one-point-six- and three-point-nine-million birds died due to lead poisoning between 1938 and 1954.
